What a BESS is for

A battery energy storage system stores energy when there is a surplus or it costs less, and delivers it when it is needed. The converter decides how and when.

01

Backup and continuity for plants

Industrial and commercial plants that cannot stop during an outage or a grid disturbance. The converter also helps maintain power quality.

02

Peak shaving

The batteries deliver energy during the hours of highest consumption to lower the peak the plant draws from the grid.

03

Stored solar energy

Storing the output of a solar PV plant to use it when there is no sun, instead of wasting it.

04

Microgrids and rural areas

Isolated sites or weak grids: the converter creates the AC grid on its own or runs in parallel with generators.

05

Ports and hybrid ships

Shore power for ships at berth and batteries on board. For the marine sector, see Beiton Marine.

06

Data centers

Danfoss lists data centers among the iC7-Hybrid applications, along with power-to-X (electrolysis and hydrogen).

// The converter

What iC7-Hybrid does

The batteries store the energy; the converter connects it to the grid, the plant or the ship. These are the functions Danfoss brings together in the iC7-Hybrid platform.

01

Grid-forming

The converter sets voltage and frequency instead of following them: it can create an AC grid on its own, with no other source holding it up.

02

Black start

Bringing the grid back up from zero after a blackout, without relying on the external grid.

03

Island mode and microgrids

Runs isolated from the grid or in parallel with other generators using droop control, as in a local microgrid or on board a ship.

04

Grid-following

Connected to the utility grid, the converter charges and discharges the batteries following that grid's voltage and frequency.

05

String PCS: each string on its own

Independent charging and discharging of each battery string, even mixing new and used batteries: more usable capacity and maintenance without stopping the whole system.

06

One platform, several functions

Also: DC/DC converter for BESS, AFE for shore power and shaft and auxiliary generator control.

Battery containers of 250 kVA/500 kWh and 500 kVA/1000 kWh, each with one VACON® NXP Grid Converter. At a fair in Hengelo, three containers on a 40 kW grid connection replaced diesel generators for four days.

What Beiton brings

Beiton does not sell batteries: we integrate the Danfoss converter with your project's battery system and stand behind it in Panama, as the only Danfoss DrivePro partner in the country.

01

Application engineering

Converter selection and sizing based on power, energy, grid voltage and operating mode (grid-connected, island or both).

02

Battery integration

Connecting the Danfoss converter with the battery system chosen for the project and its management; compatibility is confirmed during engineering.

03

Panels and control

Control panels, PLC logic and SCADA integration to operate and monitor the system.

04

Grid connection

The project is coordinated with the utility; the applicable connection requirements are reviewed case by case.

05

Commissioning

Parameter setup, testing of the operating modes and documented handover of the system.

06

DrivePro service

Preventive maintenance, genuine Danfoss spare parts and local technical support.

// Frequently asked questions

What we get asked most

Quick answers to the questions technical teams in Panama ask us most often.

Q01 What is a BESS, and which part does Beiton provide?
A BESS (battery energy storage system) has three parts: the batteries, the converter that connects them to the grid or the plant, and the controls. Beiton provides the Danfoss converter (iC7-Hybrid or VACON® NXP Grid Converter), application engineering, integration with the project's battery system, control panels and PLC/SCADA controls, commissioning and DrivePro service. The batteries are defined by the project; we do not sell them.
Q02 Does it work with my existing solar plant?
In principle, yes: the BESS stores the energy the solar plant produces and delivers it when there is no sun or when demand rises. How it connects (on the AC side or on the DC bus) depends on the existing installation, so we review it with your solar plant's single-line diagram and inverter data.
Q03 Can it run isolated if the grid goes down?
Yes, if the converter is configured for it. iC7-Hybrid offers grid-forming and black start: it can create an AC grid on its own, in island mode, or run in parallel with generators using droop control. Which loads are backed up, and for how long, depends on the battery energy and the system design.
Q04 Can new and used batteries be mixed?
With the iC7-Hybrid String PCS, yes. Its string topology charges and discharges each battery string on its own, so one string does not limit the others. According to Danfoss, this means more usable capacity, less downtime and easier maintenance. Compatibility of each battery is confirmed during project engineering.
Q05 What information do you need for a quote?
Four things: the power the system must deliver (kW), the energy it must store (kWh), the grid or plant voltage, and the main goal: outage backup, peak shaving, solar or microgrid. If you have the single-line diagram or a consumption measurement, send them too: they speed up the proposal.

Send us the power (kW), energy (kWh), grid voltage and goal: backup, peak shaving, solar or microgrid. With that we propose the converter configuration.
